Green City Action has been producing events in the Burngreave area for over nine years. The first event to be produced was the Award Winning Abbeyfield Park Multicultural Festival in 1999. The development of the festival over the years has led to Green City Action gaining valuable experience that enabled them to apply for additional funding to plan and produce a raft of events for the Burngreave area. These events are as follows:
Environment Day – May 2003 – 2007
Theatre in The Park – June / May 2004 – 2006
Abbeyfield Park Multicultural Festival – July 1999 – 2007
Wensley Fun Day – July / September 2004 – 2005
Abbeyfield Park Festival pt2 — September 2005
Firvale Festival – July / September 2006 – 2007
Carnival of Lights – December 2004 – 2007
In addition to the above events Green City Action has also co produced the following events / projects over the last two years:
Baghdaddies Xmas party – December 2005
Sheffield Live & Unsigned — September 2006
Lord Mayor’s Parade (Burngreave Schools) – July 2006
Burngreave Community Art Project – March – July 2006
The Events Department works closely with members of the community to plan, organise and deliver shows and projects for the Burngreave area. Local people have lent their support in the following areas:
Volunteers before and on the day of the events
Steering groups for local input
As performers / artists
Stall holders / exhibitors
Attendees
The aim of our events is to provide an opportunity for the community of Burngreave to gather and meet each other in a harmonious environment, where people can share food, experience art and culture, learn new skills and crafts and celebrate the wonderful and diverse community in which they live.
Funding has come from a variety of sources over the last 10 years. Most notably from the Burngreave Area Panel and the Burngreave New Deal for Communities. These organisations provided the main source of funds for the initial Burngreave Multicultural Events project to produce the main raft of events for the last three-years. The additional funding for this project has come from the following sources:
Awards for All / Lottery funds
S.R.B Objective 1 funding
